Dirt
Never one to suffer imbeciles cheerily, I
Approach each day with trepidation, wearily.
Aware however that my best will is hindered by the
Urge to reduce the world to cinders, I'll
Revise my style, and float a new boat,
Hope a new hope, so to speak,
Sincerely.
Rather than trudge through my days, drearily,
Wandering around in a haze, fearfully, I've
Endeavored to compile a com-
Pendium, of positive thoughts for a positive stance, like
Rubbing the tears from my eyes, in
Spite of the constant drubbings,
Seriously
But dirt is dirt
And dirt stays dirt
You can shake it, you can bake it, you can
Cover it up with mirth, but
Dirt is dirt.
(You can scrape it off your shoe
But there's nothing you can do
'Cuz the stain remains a part of you)
Let us consider our common neighbors,
Clawing and biting and kicking and scratching,
Hatching plans to harvest favors.
In matching suits they go off to their labors
You scorn them at your peril, for they do what you do
Using all available tools, including cowardice and abuse
They protect their tribes and they protect themselves
But dirt is dirt
And dirt stays dirt
You can shake it, you can bake it, you can
Cover it up with mirth, but
Dirt is dirt.
(To dirt we shall return, soon enough)
So, the question seems to be, can we
Get to the root of all this trouble
Before all that's left is rubble,
All our bubbles burst?
Well, it isn't simple, but two things have got to come first.
I'll list them:
All that glitters is not gold and there's
Fibbing in your church.
The endless barrage of ads and propaganda
The churning urn that implores us to suck it,
The world it makes is rank and fake and its
Bullshit arrives in buckets.
And there's no old white male humanoid
Sitting on a cloud, wrapped in a shroud and
Reading our minds.
This should be obvious enough, so,
What else that you learned was lies?
But dirt is dirt
And dirt stays dirt
You can shake it, you can bake it, you can
Cover it up with mirth, but
Dirt is dirt.
(You can scrape it off your shoe
But there's nothing you can do
'Cuz the stain remains a part of you)
Before signing off, I'll summarize, but first
I've got to apologize.
My recommendations are not particularly felicitous,
But rather, in a nutshell, they are:
Stop shopping, stop eating meat, stop having babies, stop driving your car.
Start thinking, start seeing, be humble, and open your heart.
But dirt is dirt
And dirt stays dirt
